Are you passionate about Teaching and Learning and dedicated to making a positive impact on young people's lives?

The Culture and Care portfolio will include the leadership, management and operation of effective systems of Pastoral Support, Behaviour and Safety for all pupils across the school’s roll, including the day-to day leadership and management of staff. The successful applicant will strategically lead and implement effective behaviour, engagement and pastoral care approaches for pupils with complex needs and barriers to learning. They will also assume the role of deputy designated safeguarding lead, supporting the DSL as required.

Why choose us?

We offer specialist support for students with social, emotional and mental health needs and this is at the centre of everything we do.  We support our students to accelerate their academic, social and emotional skills development and ultimately enable them to re-engage with learning.

We are genuinely committed to our students and our staff and have a strong, supportive and dedicated staff team whose moto is ‘work hard and be nice to people’.

We are part of TEAL (The Education Alliance) Multi Academy Trust and together we share a common purpose:

“We are here to make great schools and happier, stronger communities so that people have better lives”

Within The Education Alliance Multi Academy Trust, there are lots of opportunities for collaboration and also further opportunities to develop and progress.

For too long in many schools, staff have been asked to choose between being seen as good at their job and being a good mum, dad, partner, son, daughter or friend. We are doing everything we can to support our staff to balance the demands of their jobs and those at home.

To support this, we:

  • Trust our staff to plan, prepare and assess at the best time for them, allowing them to go off-site in their PPA
  • Have centralised our Behaviour Policy so teachers are freed up from supervising detentions
  • Demand ethical leadership built on professional trust
  • Reject fads and ensure our CPD is evidence-informed and predominantly subject specific
  • Have reduced data collections to twice yearly
  • Do not expect staff to respond to emails outside normal working hours
  • Do not deploy staff at other Trust schools unless it is at their request

We have removed the following

  • Performance management objectives and performance-related pay
  • Lesson observations and high stakes, toxic accountability
  • Onerous marking policies
  • Requirements for daily or weekly lesson plans

Above all, we recognise that seeking to remove the number of tasks staff undertake will have little effect on improving work/home balance if this happens within a toxic culture.  To support this, we offer training for our leaders to ensure they are able to translate our values into behaviours which are built on the principles of dignity, respect, professionalism and integrity.

As well as all of this, we can also offer you:

  • Ethical leadership, professional trust and autonomy and a caring ethos in which everyone is valued and respected.
  • A great programme of CPD and opportunities to collaborate with other teaching professionals across TEAL.
  • Family friendly policies, including sector leading Maternity, Adoption and Neonatal care pay offers.
  • Well-being support including discounted East Riding gym membership; free annual flu vaccinations; refund of the cost of the annual NHS prescription prepayment certificate; access to a free employee assistance scheme 24/7 with advice on a wide range of practical issues ranging from legal information and consumer issues to specialist counselling.
  • Access to our staff benefits platform which includes big brand discounts and other financial incentives including a cycle to work scheme offering discounted bike purchases
  • Membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Teaching and Learning and wants to make a positive impact on the lives of young people, the successful candidate will have a proven track record of implementing strategies and interventions to raise achievement and standards, narrowing gaps in attainment and progression as well as:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and up to date knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of effective teaching and learning, monitoring/ assessment and evaluation.
  • A high degree of knowledge of the principles and practices of effective relational practice and Inclusivity for pupils with special educational needs
