Teaching Assistant Level 1 (Fixed Term)

Howden Junior School are looking for an individual who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young people to join our friendly and dedicated team, providing in-class support for a pupil with special educational needs. 

The working hours are from 08:30am to 3:30pm Monday to Friday during the school term. Your actual salary will be £18,230.18 per annum, and this is paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.  This is a fixed-term role, until 31st August 2026. 

We are looking for someone who is able to start in September 2025. 

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities associated with this role include:

Facilitating the individual pupil's physical, emotional and educational development, by 

• clarifying and explaining instructions;
• ensuring the pupil is able to use equipment and materials provided; Including, moving and handling to meet a child’s individual needs.
• assisting in identified areas, e.g. language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting/presentation, the use of ICT, social skills and EAL etc
• helping pupils to concentrate on, and finish work set;
• meeting the physical and personal care needs of pupils as required, whilst encouraging independence where appropriate;
• liaising with the class teacher and SENCO about individual needs
• developing appropriate resources to support the pupil(s)

We are looking for an individual who is compassionate, engaging, versatile and committed to ensuring every individual child receives the care, support and guidance they need to thrive and be the best they can be. 

The successful applicant will have good literacy and numeracy skills, experience working with children and the ability to work collaboratively within a team with minimal supervision.
